Outsourcing of Schuetz Container System’s, USA, IT
Infrastructure.
Vectrocon Computer Consulting provided supplemental support services to Schuetz
Container Systems, the United States Subsidiary of Schütz GmbH & Co. KGaA,
a worldwide leader in various industries including industrial packaging located
in Selters, Germany. Support work included provisioning Internet connections
for the firm’s 4 factories, revamping the IT infrastructure, creating VPN’s and
interlinked VOIP telephone systems and performing some routine services,
including enforcing backup routines, patching of all systems and creating
accounts and maintaining file permissions. Internal IT staff provided internal
application support and first level help desk support to the approximately 75
users.
Over time, Vectrocon’s skills were used when a wholly owned subsidiary,
previously left as a separate entity, was brought more closely under the
governance of the parent. This included substantial changes to their IT
infrastructure. Also, new equipment and new factories were brought online, and
the provisioning and deployment of IT gear was given to Vectrocon. At the same
time, line of business applications formerly handled by the internal IT
department of the Schuetz subsidiary was placed under the control of the global
IT group in Selters, Germany.
By March of 2007, the combination of Vectrocon’s strong performance in managing
the IT infrastructure, coupled with the elimination of the local line of
business applications made the continued use of internal technology personnel
no longer necessary.
Vectrocon’s President, Gordon Ott, had this to say about the transaction, “we
are pleased that after years of work with Schuetz that management has selected
us to continue to eliminate technology problems for them on such a large scale.
The key to our success has been applying our strengths — constant retraining,
good communication skills, efficiency in operations and best practices for
technology management.”
